Pediatric imaging is for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. EFW technologists and doctors have been specifically trained in this subspecialty.

How Do I Prepare for My Exam?

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete the check-in process and any necessary paperwork.

Pediatric Renal and Bladder Ultrasound

Exam preparation instructions by age:

  • (0-36 Months) - No exam preparation is required.
  • (3-10 Years) - Full bladder is required. Empty bladder one hour prior to the exam, then drink two 8-ounce glasses of water one hour prior. Do not empty bladder until the exam is completed.
  • (11-15 Years) - Full bladder is required. Empty bladder one hour prior to the exam, then drink three 8-ounce glasses of water. Do not empty bladder until the exam is completed. If absolutely necessary, your bladder may be partially emptied.
  • (16 Years) - Full bladder is required. Drink four 8-ounce glasses of water (patients under 80 lbs. drink only two 8-ounce glasses) completed one hour before your appointment. Do not empty your bladder until the exam is completed. If absolutely necessary, your bladder may be partially emptied.

Pediatric Appendix Ultrasound

Exam preparation instructions by age:

  • (0-36 Months) - Do not eat for three hours prior to the exam time*. Clear fluids are allowed. No milk or cream.
  • (3-10 Years) - Do not eat for six hours prior to the exam time*. Clear fluids are allowed. No milk or cream. Full bladder is required. Empty bladder one hour prior to the exam, then drink two 8-ounce glasses of water. Do not empty bladder until the exam is completed. If absolutely necessary, your bladder may be partially emptied.
  • (10 Years and older) – Do not eat for six hours prior to the exam time*. Full bladder is required. Empty bladder one hour prior to exam, then drink three 8-ounce glasses of water. Do not empty bladder until the exam is completed. If absolutely necessary, your bladder may be partially emptied.

*If your exam time is booked less than the above fasting requirements, please do not eat and follow the instructions above for age appropriate bladder preparation.
