Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) uses a very low-level X-ray to determine the density or strength of bones. BMD is able to diagnose osteopenia as well as osteoporosis. BMD tests are also used to determine how well osteoporosis medicine is working and help predict risk of future bone fractures.

How Do I Prepare for My Exam?

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete the check-in process and any necessary paperwork.

Wear clothing with no zippers or metal.

If you have had a CT scan with contrast, an MRI scan with contrast, or any Barium studies within the week prior to your appointment, we cannot perform this exam.

Please inform us if you may be pregnant. We cannot perform this exam if there is a chance you are pregnant.

Please bring a list of all medication you are currently taking including vitamins.
